Moorlands PTA offers a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Below you will find information on both current volunteer needs as well as open Committee Chairperson positions for the 2010-2011 school year.
Current Volunteer Needs
Can it really be time already???? The 2010-2011 school year is right around the corner, so it's time to ask all of you to help get our school year off to a successful start. We are looking for volunteers to help out with a number of activities during the next few weeks:
Treasurer Vacancy!!!!!
We are still in need of a Treasurer for the upcoming school year. If we do not fill this position soon, it is going to be very difficult to keep our PTA running smoothly. If you or someone you know has a good financial understanding and would be willing to help the PTA in this very important capacity, please contact Bob Graff at volunteers@moorlandspta.org.
First Day Packets
We will be assembling the First Day Information Packets this Tuesday morning at 9:00 am. If you would like to lend a hand, there's no need to reply. Just come to the Moorlands office.
Teacher/Staff Luncheon - Tuesday, Aug. 31
The PTA will be providing lunch to the teachers and staff on Tuesday, Aug. 31. The food has been ordered, but we need 2-3 volunteers to help with set-up (10:45-11:30) and clean-up (1:00-1:45). If you are available to help, please contact Laura Parpart at president@moorlandspta.org.
Traffic and Safety Assistance - Sept. 1-10
We are in need of numerous volunteers to help with traffic flow and safety assistance during the first two weeks of school. Morning volunteers are needed from 8:20-8:40. Breakfast Buddies
Did you know that due to the lack of available adult supervision, students who eat breakfast at Moorlands traditionally had to eat outside? This can often be difficult and uncomfortable, especially when our area's more inclimate weather arrives. But you can help by becoming a "Breakfast Buddy." Auction Planning

Committee Chair Openings -
2010-2011 School Year
All of the events and activities of the Moorlands PTA only happen because of our wonderful volunteer Committee Chairs. Each year, we rely on new volunteers to step up to replace those who are moving onto other projects or who will no longer have children at Moorlands. So it is time to start planning for next year. Below you will find the names and brief descriptions of the Committees for which Chairpersons or Co-chairs will be needed for the 2010-2011 school year. If you would like consider filling one of these vacancies, you can go to www.mysignup.com/moorlandspta_committee_chairs, click on the open position and provide your name and contact info. Bob Graff, our VP of Parent Involvement, or the current Committee Chair will then contact you to further discuss the opportunity.
Art Docent (Chair and Co-Chair) - Responsible for planning periodic art lessons/activities in classrooms. Recruits and trains parent volunteers for each classroom to implement the lessons. Interested in Co-Chairing? Click here!
Bingo Night (Co-Chair) - Responsible for recruiting and running a committee to plan and run this Friday night event - usually taking place in January/February. Includes facilities coordination with Inglemoor High School, equipment rental, game program and prize scheduling, event marketing and dinner prep. Interested in Co-Chairing? Click here!
Breakfast Buddies (Co-Chair) - Recruit and coordinate volunteers to supervise students who eat breakfast at the school each morning. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Chess Club (Chair and Co-Chair) - Coordinate the after-school reservation of the library for chess season (January-March). Coordinate with "Chess 4 Life" organization to reserve chess coaches, club dates and register students. Attend chess club meetings and recruit other parent volunteers to help make sure all students arrive and are picked up safely. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Classic Books (Co-Chair) - Plan and promote this ongoing program where parent volunteers meet with students at lunch recess for in-depth discussion of classic literature and encourage them to discover new books on their own. Garden Club (Co-Chair) - Responsible for overseeing and maintaining gardens throughout the school grounds. Recruit volunteers to help with planting and on-going maintenance. Plan periodic garden clean-up events. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Health Room (Chair and Co-Chair) - Recruit and organize volunteers to help with school-wide vision and hearing screening during the Fall. Assist the school nurse with set-up, clean-up and general help with screening day. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Hospitality (Chair and Co-Chair) - Help other committee chairs with food and beverage needs for special activities and events throughout the year. Coordinate volunteers to help prepare baked goods and other food items. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Membership (Chair and Co-Chair) - Promotes and encourages parents to join the PTA. Staffs the membership table at the Fall Ice Cream Social and other events. Records PTA memberships (collection of checks, completion of deposit vouchers and entering of member data into PTA website). Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Movie Night (Chair and Co-Chair) - Plan and promote Friday movie nights in the gym 1-2 times during the school year. Determine movie, set-up equipment, coordinate snack table, and coordinate clean-up. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
Staff Appreciation (Chair and Co-Chair) - Coordinate daily creative "thank you's" during Staff Appreciation Week in May. Also coordinate monthly treats/snacks throughout the school year. Interested in Chairing? Click here!
World Language (Co-Chair) - Plan and promote after-school language programs during the Winter and Spring Trimesters. Coordinate use of classrooms, schedule language teachers, and coordinate registration of students. Interested in Co-Chairing? Click here!
