Spirit Day

Spirit Day occurs on most Fridays during lunch recess. Students can purchase special treats, such as popcorn and candy, for 25 cents. Volunteers are needed each week to set up the Spirit Day table and popcorn machine and staff the table during the recess time.

The time commitment is from 11:30 till 2:00 on your assigned Friday (usually 4 - 5 times per year).  What we do is set up candy and a popcorn machine, then sell the items to the kids during their lunch break.

This is a VERY fun activity (plus your own kids love showing you off to their friends).  I would be happy to make sure you are paired with a friend or someone who knows the ropes (or me) so that they can explain the details if you are new.

Here are the details:
1.  Please arrive by 11:30 am to get set up.  This involves setting out the candy and making a few batches of popcorn.  It also helps to bag a lot of popcorn before the first "rush".  Use the cord that is on the cart and plug it into the outlet in the gym. Retrieve the can of money from the PTA cupboard in the office.
2.  Try to have the students form 2 lines for candy, and 1 for popcorn.  Each volunteer can take a line.  Please wear plastic gloves.  The kids are limited to spending 50 cents.
3.  Many students will have free passes from their Teachers.  These are worth 25 cents.  The Safety Patrol kids get one free item each - the honor system seems to work fine with this.
4.  You should start shutting down and cleaning up around 1:30pm.  Please wipe down the popcorn machine, clean up the tray and sweep up any spilled kernels.  Left over popcorn should be brought to the Staff Lounge.  All opened candy needs to be put into the plastic bins and the lids must be securely closed.
5.  Separate the free passes and place them into the teacher's mailboxes. Place the can of money back in the PTA cupboard in the office.
