PTA Organizational Structure
A PTA (or PTSA) unit is a local, self-governing membership association whose main purpose is to serve the needs and desires of its members in promoting the health, welfare, safety and education of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.
A local PTA unit is the basis of the grassroots involvement of PTA, because all members of PTA belong to a local unit. The real strength of PTA lies in the 142,000 local unit members working within the various school communities of the state for children and youth.
A local PTA unit is chartered by and affiliated with the Washington State PTA.
PTA Council: Northshore PTSA Council
A PTA council is a group of local PTA units working together to coordinate the efforts of those units. Our Council includes all local PTA units in the Northshore School District. The role of a PTA council is to provide advocacy training, support, coordinate, facilitate, and serve the needs of the local PTA units, which are members of that PTA council.
The Washington State PTA charters a PTA Council.
Region: Washington State Region 6 PTA
A PTA region is a geographic area within the state of Washington. Region 6 is comprised of Northshore, Shoreline, Seattle, and Vashon Island PTA Councils. It is the focal point for leadership education, training, networking, service and coordination of all PTA units and councils within that geographic area.
There are 13 Regions within the State of Washington.
The Washington State PTA is a nonprofit, tax-exempt, statewide membership association whose purpose is to provide service to the local PTA units and PTA councils which it has chartered, giving them the tools and training needed to become advocates for children. Washington State PTA consists of all 13 regions within the state.
A Board of Directors consisting of 4 statewide officers, 13 region directors, a leadership director, program director, and a legislative director governs the Washington State PTA. The Board governs the affairs of the State PTA, as well as providing leadership training and education to local PTA units and councils. Board members, along with their service delivery team, are always accessible and available to PTA members, units, and councils for help and advice.
The Washington State PTA is chartered by and affiliated with the National PTA.
