The Community Service Committee organizes several service projects, often in conjunction with the Moorlands Student Council, during the year to benefit local community organizations. Past projects include food drives, clothing drives, serving hot meals at local community centers, and much more.
2009-10 Community Svc. Projects
Volunteers Needed for Teen Feed - Friday, May 21
Our wonderful dinner in February was a huge hit with the Kirkland Teen Union Building! So Moorlands and the PTA will again be providing dinner for area teens on Friday, May 21. This time, a taco/burrito bar will be the featured dish with Mrs. Fullerton's class providing yummy dessert again. Volunteers are needed to provide food/dishes for the evening and/or help set up and serve.
Please contact the PTA Community Service Committee at communityservice@moorlandspta.org if you would like to help. Your children are welcome to come along - it's a great experience for all! You will need to bring your food/dish directly to the Teen Union Building this time (348 Kirkland Avenue, Kirkland - adjacent to Peter Kirk Park.)
Student Council Sock Drive
The Student Council is sponsoring a sock drive for homeless youth during "Dr. Seuss Week" (March 1-5). Most of the socks will be donated to Friends of Youth for the street outreach program with others potentially going to the Salvation Army for their street outreach program. Adult sizes are best and only new socks can be accepted. Collection boxes will be placed in the office with the student council creating posters to hang around the school.
Volunteers Needed for Teen Feed 3/19
Together with Mrs. Fullerton's class, Community Service will be putting together a dinner to feed 50-60 at-risk Eastside teens. Volunteers are needed to make a simple dinner and either deliver to Mrs. Fullerton's classroom @ 5:00pm or directly to the Teen Union Building in Kirkland on the 19th @ 5:30. The meal will consist of:
Baked Potatoes & Toppings (a build-your-own station)
Side Salads (green, pasta, bean, etc.)
Beverages (milk, juice)
We have a small budget to reimburse volunteers for the food costs. There is no oven at the facility, so hot foods will need to arrive at the facility/school very warm. Volunteers are welcome to stay to help assist or just drop off the food. The facility provides paper products & silverware.
